Help!

We need volunteers to assist with a Habitat project this Saturday February 23rd. Please let me know if you are interested and available. Jack (969-8181 or jack@jackcarneylaw.com)

Other Ways you Can Help

As many of you know, a part of any Habitat project is a monetary donation by the sponsoring organization. We need your help in making the donation for our Habitat House! Special donation envelopes are availble in the gathering place. Donations may be placed in the collection basket or in the now famous "pink house," which is a Coleman Monterro original.

Consider involving your family in any Habitat donation. Instead of ordering pizza or eating at a restaurant, consider dining at home as your Lenten sacrifice and giving those funds to Habitat. You can then bring your children to the Habitat site and show them how their funds have been used for such a worthwhile cause.

Please make every effort to attend the Fish Fry at the Church this Friday February 22 at 6 pm. Our Habitat homeowners (as well as several members of the Habitat staff) will be attending. Help us demonstrate our parish's wonderful hospitality!

You may be wondering how you can help. We are always in need of volunteers during the week (Tuesday through Friday) and on Saturdays. The next large Saturday workday will be on March 1 (at which time there will be a team meeting at the church). Prince of Peace in the News!

Please tune into ABC 33/40's Matters of Faith segment on Sunday February 24th at 10:00 p.m. The feature story will be the 2008 Apostles Build.

Opening Day

We started construction on February 9, 2008. We had over seventy volunteers working on houses across Birmingham! In addition, several other volunteers prepared food, provided babysitting, took pictures and made phone calls. This project has truly been parish-wide! There are several pictures available at http://www.habitatbirmingham.org/photogallery/index.php

In addition, a few sights from the day are included below. Enjoy!

Who are We Helping?

This year Prince of Peace is helping two families achieve the dream of home ownership:

Lillian Washington and her daughter, Jennifer
Lillian was born and raised in Birmingham. She is one of nine siblings. Lillian has four grown children and five grandchildren. She graduated from Wenonah High School and attends Bryant Chapel AME Church. Lillian enjoys cooking, cleaning and watching her grandchildren grow.

Jennifer was born in Montgomery and raised in Birmingham. Jennifer graduated from Wenonah High School and enjoys attending Bryant Chapel with her mom. Jennifer enjoys reading, crocheting, dancing and listening to music. Jennifer aspires to be a nurse.

Lillian and Jennifer say owning their own home will positively change their lives because they will finally have a better living environment and a true place to call home. ”Through blessings from God all things are possible,” says Lillian.

Edna Townsend
Edna was born and raised in Birmingham. She is the youngest child of six. Edna has one daughter and two grandchildren. Edna graduated from Carver High School and is employed with Motel 6. She has been employed there for more than 22 years as a house keeper. She enjoys attending St. Andrew Baptist Church and is an active member of the church choir.

“My life as a homeowner will be awesome,” says Edna. I will forever praise the Lord with my whole heart and soul.”

Apostles Build 2008

WHAT IS AN APOSTLES BUILD?

An Apostles Build joins congregations of various faiths and membership sizes together to build a house in partnership with deserving, low-income families. The concept is based on going out into the community to serve others, in the way Jesus’ apostles served.

WHY AN APOSTLES BUILD?

An Apostles Build gives congregations an opportunity to reach its goals of ministry and home missions by
offering people a way to share God’s love and lead people to grow in their faith. It is a tangible way for
church members to put their faith into action, and reach beyond the walls of the church to serve.

Prince of Peace is a proud participant in the 2008 Apostles Build. The following churches are participating in this year's build:
